Strategic Objectives

In order to implement the Strategic Vision until 2015, 3 strategic objectives have been defined:

1 – To Enlarge and Maximise the Potential of the Hinterland

From a geographical view it is intended to enlarge the current hinterland of the port of Aveiro to include the interior of the country and the region to the northwest of Madrid (Spain), and also its integration into the rail network.
From an economic view it is intended to maximise the potential of the economic dynamism of the hinterland:
- Increasing and diversifying the cargo handled in order to extent to new markets
- Including the introduction of containers niche and SSS markets
- Increasing the number of clients, focusing on the retention of clients of logistic platform.

2 – To Realise the Potential of the Logistic Platform

This constitutes one differential element for Port of Aveiro concerning other Iberian Ports, since it will allow:
- To transform the available berthing and embankment capacity into a factor that will improve port operations (by minimising the waiting time for ships and maximising the benefits of the storage space).
- The economic advantages of the land area (approximately 130 ha) resulting from its good geographical location and the access to berthing facilities (with the possibility of private docks) should be boosted, so that logistic and industrial activities can be planted, transforming the area into an economic development node within the region.

3 – To improve port services

- Improving access by sea to the port
- Flexibility and increased productivity of stowage operations
- Improving of administrative and customs procedures
- Improving the functional organisation of port operations and coordination between the different port agents and actors.
